Then I walked down to see one of the original Statue of Liberty's. Did you know, if any of you know the National Treasurer movies, in the second film, the bridge that the two guys are standing on is a couple away from the actual statue! Tricky hollywood ... and I always thought everything was real!
One thing I really noticed walking around the Passy area, and then the Javel/Grenelle areas, how different the architecture is. Much more of an Art Deco feel to the whole area. It was great! I liked this part of town.
After some lunch at a lovely little cafe on the Avenue Emile Zola, I toddled off past the Ecole Millitare, to the Hotel des Invalides, and saw the Army Museum & Napoleon I's tomb under the gold dome. What struck me about this place, despite it's history as a dark & desperate army hospital and (still) training grounds was how bright the whole thing was. Especially the internal Cathedral St Louis. It was beautiful.
Next stop, just around the corner - the Musee Rodin.
Walked back through the Invalides Quarter, over the river, back home to recharge my camera battery because it had run out of juice (many photos were taken today!). Back on the 30 minute Metro ride and onto a night cruise of the Seine! Topped off with a few more pics of Her Majesty and home to write a quick blog before I hit the pillows for a couple of hours sleep, pack, get into a mini bus at 9am and head to the airport! I've had a great holiday, but after 3 weeks, I'm very happy to be coming home. I like home. We live in a wonderful country. I will write one last blog in a day or two, just with some of my reflections & odd& ends.
Until then, friends, it's au revoir from me & I hope you've enjoyed accompanying me (and Donkey!!!) on my adventure.
